Cookie Policy
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on aio.io, why we use them, and the choices you have.
Last updated: 10 April 2025
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to the site owner.
We also use related technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage - browser-side storage mechanisms that work similarly to cookies but are never transmitted to our servers. Where we refer to "cookies" in this policy, we mean all of these technologies unless stated otherwise.
2. Who sets these cookies?
Cookies on aio.io are set by two parties:
- First-party cookies - set directly by AIO (the site you are visiting). These support authentication, session management, and your in-page interactions.
- Third-party cookies - set by Google Analytics 4 (via googletagmanager.com) when you consent to analytics cookies. Google may use this data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
3. Essential cookies
Essential cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function. They enable core features such as authentication, security, and checkout flows. These cookies do not require your consent under UK and EU law and cannot be disabled.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| sb-* | AIO / Supabase | Stores your authentication session so you remain logged in between page loads and browser restarts. | localStorage (first-party) | Session / until sign-out |
| aio_refresh_token | AIO | Stores a refresh token used to silently renew your login session without requiring you to sign in again. | localStorage (first-party) | Until sign-out |
| aio_preselected_tier_name | AIO | Remembers which pricing plan you selected before being redirected to sign in, so it can be applied automatically after you log in. | sessionStorage (first-party) | Session |
| aio_stripe_session_id | AIO | Temporarily stores your Stripe checkout session ID during the payment flow so the confirmation page can verify your purchase. | sessionStorage (first-party) | Cleared after payment confirmation |
| aio_stripe_tier | AIO | Temporarily stores the selected pricing tier details (name, amount, currency) to display accurate confirmation information after checkout. | sessionStorage (first-party) | Cleared after payment confirmation |
4. Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with our website - for example, which pages are viewed most often and how users navigate through the site. This helps us improve the website and make it more useful.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by choosing Essential only in our cookie consent banner, or by adjusting your preferences using the link in the footer.
We use Consent Mode v2. By default analytics and advertising storage (ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization) are granted so we can measure site traffic and advertising campaign conversions. If you choose Essential only, these are set to denied and that choice is remembered on future visits.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Type | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated client ID. Used to calculate session and user counts in reports. | Cookie (third-party) | 2 years |
| _ga_DFG0043FBK | Google Analytics | Stores and updates a unique value for each page visited. Used to maintain session state. | Cookie (third-party) | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users. Used to throttle request rate. | Cookie (third-party) | 24 hours |
5. Managing your cookie preferences
When you first visit our website, a cookie consent banner will ask for your preferences. You can choose to:
- Accept all - enables essential and analytics cookies.
- Essential only - enables only the cookies required for the site to function; analytics cookies are blocked.
- Manage preferences - choose individually which categories to enable.
Your preference is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key aio_cookie_consent and will be respected on every subsequent visit.
Changing your preferences
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site and refreshing the page - the consent banner will reappear. Most browsers also provide settings to block or delete cookies and localStorage data directly:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search and services → Clear browsing data
Please note that blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the website - such as signing in and completing a purchase - from working correctly.
Opting out of Google Analytics
In addition to our consent controls, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent GA4 from collecting data across all websites you visit.
6. Legal basis for processing
We rely on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR for placing cookies:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for essential cookies, where processing is strictly necessary for the provision of our service.
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
If we make significant changes - for example, adding a new category of cookies - we will reset your stored preferences so that you are asked to consent again.
